Foxhills Club & Resort has begun work on a major golf course modernisation project that has seen £1.5 million already invested – and has announced a new director of golf to help oversee the improvements.

Following the opening of the club’s dedicated short game area, The Practice Den, and significant driving range enhancements, the Surrey venue will be undergoing a major investment and golf course improvement project over the next five years, which will see the biggest structural changes in the Longcross and Bernard Hunt courses since they were designed by Fred Hawtree and opened for play in 1975.

As part of the significant upgrades, the best-in-class greenkeeping equipment has been purchased from leading suppliers, Toro and John Deere, which will elevate the conditioning and maintenance to even higher standards.

Work on several holes on the back nine of the Longcross – renowned as one of Surrey’s top tree-lined layouts and consistently featured in UK top 100 rankings – is already underway and will continue throughout the winter under the leadership of new director of golf, Sean Graham.

Sean Graham has been promoted from golf operations manager at Foxhills to Director of Golf, and part of his new role will see him oversee the renovations being carried out to the club’s two championship layouts

European Golf Design (EGD), which has redesigned several of Europe’s most exciting golf courses including 2023 Ryder Cup venue Golf Club Marco Simone and the West Course at Wentworth, was selected for the work following a full review of both championship courses with agronomy experts, Turfgrass. The assessment highlighted where playing conditions can be improved and how the courses can better challenge the modern style of the game.

Bunker shape and positioning; green size, shape and contouring; as well as herringbone drainage and irrigation upgrade work on holes 12, 13, 14 and 15 of the Longcross will take place over the coming months, while tee positions will also change on several holes to bring hazards more in play and encourage more strategy and creativity throughout the round.

But it is on the 16th hole where the most complex part of the renovation project will take place, with work already having begun to transform the par-three into a signature hole. A pond, which currently sits too far away from the green to influence club selection, will be extended to the putting-surface edge to create a more dramatic hole. The size of the green will also be increased to provide room for additional pin locations and a new bunker will be built on the left side of the green to remove the temptation of bailing out.

Phase two is scheduled to begin in summer 2023, with attention turning to improvements across the rest of the back nine on the Longcross before moving onto the Bernard Hunt in 2024.

Overseeing the work will be new director of golf, Sean Graham, who has been promoted after spending nearly five years working at the Ottershaw-based venue as head of golf operations and retail after returning to the UK in 2018 from three years in Saudi Arabia.

The 29-year-old’s new role caps an incredible rise in the industry for Graham – who graduated as a PGA professional in 2014 from the University of Birmingham.

Graham said: “Being given the opportunity to become director of golf here at Foxhills Club & Resort is a really proud moment for me. It’s reward for how hard I feel I’ve worked since joining Foxhills five years ago and it’s also hopefully a reflection of my relationship with the members. I feel like I have a real connection with the club, so it’s a really gratifying moment for me and I can’t wait to get started.

“This is an extremely exciting time for golfers at Foxhills. The course changes are going to make a big difference to the playing experience. It’s important to us that the courses are enjoyable for all levels of golfer, from low handicappers to mid-high and the masterplan for this project was designed with this at the front of our mind.”

Tej Walia, Foxhills’ general manager, said: “We are constantly striving to improve the member and guest experience. This golf investment plan, the largest scale of investment we have ever put into the courses, is going to raise golf at Foxhills to a new level. The work that’s being carried out is testament to our owner’s commitment to continued improvement and desire to be up there in the conversation with the best courses in the country.”

Alongside two 18-hole championship layouts and the Manor Course, a par-three nine-hole course, as well as a short game practice area and driving range, Foxhills offers an award-winning gym and Health Spa, five swimming pools, 11 tennis courts, a packed schedule of weekly fitness classes, three restaurants and a 66-bedroom hotel.

]]> The Match 2022 odds, predictions, bets: Proven golf expert unveils picks for Woods, McIlroy vs. Spieth, Thomas https://golfingagency.com/the-match-2022-odds-predictions-bets-proven-golf-expert-unveils-picks-for-woods-mcilroy-vs-spieth-thomas/ Sat, 10 Dec 2022 13:03:46 +0000 https://golfingagency.com/the-match-2022-odds-predictions-bets-proven-golf-expert-unveils-picks-for-woods-mcilroy-vs-spieth-thomas/

The Match has become one of the most popular golf events as multiple sports celebrities such as Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes and Steph Curry have participated in past versions of the competition. It’ll just be professional golfers participating in The Match 2022 on Saturday (6 p.m. ET) at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla., however. Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy will team up against Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas in what could be one of the highest-quality renditions of the event. Spieth and Thomas are priced as -130 favorites (risk $130 to win $100) at Caesars Sportsbook, giving them a slight edge over Woods and McIlroy (+110) in the latest The Match 7 odds.

Woods withdrew from the Hero World Challenge due to a foot injury, which is something to monitor as the event progresses. Should you be avoiding Woods and McIlroy due to that factor? Before locking in any Match 7 bets, be sure to see Match VII picks and predictions from SportsLine’s proven golf expert, Mike McClure.

McClure, a DFS professional, knows golf inside and out. His proprietary model has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, it’s up over $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model included Justin Thomas in its best bets to win the 2022 PGA Championship. That bet hit at +1600, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned almost $800. At the 2022 Masters, McClure’s model was all over Scottie Scheffler’s first career major championship victory heading into the weekend.

In addition, McClure was all over Brooks Koepka defeating Bryson DeChambeau as a +110 underdog in The Match V. This same model has also nailed a whopping eight majors entering this event. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now, with The Match 7 set to tee off on Saturday evening, McClure has scoured the golf odds and locked in his top pick. Head to SportsLine now to see McClure’s best bet for The Match VII.

Why Tiger Woods/Rory McIlroy can win The Match 7

Woods has experience participating in this event, as he teamed up with Peyton Manning to defeat Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady in 2020. He is also one of the best golfers of all time, and McIlroy’s long drives should put him in a position to utilize his short game. McIlroy has the top spot in the World Golf Ranking and has placed at least fourth in six straight tournaments that he has participated in.

He has also played recently, finishing fourth in the DP World Tour Championship on Nov. 20, while Thomas and Spieth have not played competitively since Oct. 23. This is only a 12-hole exhibition match, so health should not be a major factor for Woods. His experience combined with McIlroy’s superior ability gives that duo an edge over Thomas and Spieth on Saturday. See which side to back at SportsLine.

Why Jordan Spieth/Justin Thomas can win The Match 7

This match will likely come down to the form of Woods, who is playing competitively for the first time in months and is dealing with several injuries. His lack of form makes Spieth and Thomas the much safer betting option, especially since they have gone 8-2 as a duo since 2018. They went 4-0-0 together at Quail Hollow in September, so they have some recent success to lean on heading into this exhibition showdown.

McIlroy has consistently been one of the best drivers in the sport, but Spieth and Thomas are both strong off the tee as well. They are close friends off the course, giving them an upper hand in a rare 2 vs. 2 exhibition format such as this one. Woods appears to be the weak link in this year’s version of The Match, especially considering the recent consistency from the other three golfers participating. See which side to back at SportsLine.

DP World Tour unveils 2023 schedule https://golfingagency.com/dp-world-tour-unveils-2023-schedule/ https://golfingagency.com/dp-world-tour-unveils-2023-schedule/#respond Fri, 04 Nov 2022 12:08:33 +0000 https://golfingagency.com/dp-world-tour-unveils-2023-schedule/
The DP World Tour tournament schedule for the 2023 season will feature a minimum of 39 tournaments in 26 countries and offer an overall prize fund of $144.2m (€147.8m).

In the face of increased competition from LIV Golf and the PGA TOUR, the DP World Tour, formerly known as the European Tour, has announced a number of significant changes to the way it rewards its members for the coming season, with an increased bonus pool of $6m being shared among the top eight players on its end of season ranking and the introduction of a new programme that will guarantee minimum earnings. There will also be a new three-week mid-summer break after the Open Championship, which was asked for by the players’ committee and approved by the Tour.

Starting next month, the ‘Earnings Assurance Programme’ will guarantee a minimum income of $150,000 to players who compete in 15 or more events in a season. The money will not come on top of earnings but be paid out to players in categories 1-17 who fail to reach that level. Thus, a player who earns $125,000 in prize money in a season will be awarded a further $25,000 to take their overall income to $150,000. Players who fall outside of these categories (18-20) will be awarded $1,500 if they miss the cut at an event, ensuring that some of the cost of entry fees, travel and accommodation are met if they fail to earn any prize money.

Those playing their first season on the DP World Tour, as well as Challenge Tour graduates and Qualifying School graduates, will be able to take an advance of $20,000 to fund early season travel costs. This will be payable back if they exceed earnings of over $150,000 during the season.

DP World Tour chief executive Keith Pelley is under pressure to deliver high prize funds for events that are not attracting strong fields due to competition from LIV Golf and the PGA TOUR

Keith Pelley, the DP World Tour’s Chief Executive, said the record prize fund, increased bonus pool and Earnings Assurance Programme have been made possible by the Tour’s joint venture partnership with the PGA TOUR, which announced a similar guaranteed earnings programme in June.

He said: “For us to be able to offer our members record prize funds and enhanced earning opportunities is massive, particularly when global economies are still feeling the effects of the pandemic and with the new challenge of rising inflation significantly putting pressure on costs in all facets of our business. Our overall prize fund for the 2023 season represents $50 million more than 2021, and also underlines the strength of our partnership with the PGA TOUR, who are working with us to drive revenue and a long-term growth plan.”

He added: “One of the many benefits we have been able to introduce because of this partnership is the new Earnings Assurance Programme, similar to what they already have on the PGA TOUR. I have always believed that it is an incredible accomplishment for any professional golfer to simply gain their playing rights on the DP World Tour and this new initiative recognises and rewards that achievement.

“Although we will never lose the magic of the meritocracy and purity of a performance-based structure, this now offers certainty of income to those players who have made it to the pinnacle of the professional game in Europe. Alongside the John Jacobs Bursary for the top five players who graduate to the DP World Tour from the Challenge Tour, it will provide security and a strong platform for emerging players in particular as they come through the global pathways we have created.”

Included in the DP World Tour’s record prize fund of $144.2million is an increase in the tournament prize funds for the first four Rolex Series events of 2023. The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, Dubai Desert Classic, Genesis Scottish Open and BMW PGA Championship all move from $8m in 2022 to $9m next year, ahead of the $10m season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

The DP World Tour’s global schedule begins with on November 24, 2022, with a double header – the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship in Brisbane and the Joburg Open in South Africa. The former is one of two tournaments in Australia on the DP World Tour schedule as part of the Strategic Alliance with the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia, while the latter is one of six events co-sanctioned with the Sunshine Tour, also as part of a strategic alliance.

Four new tournaments in Asia are also included on the 2023 schedule, with the Singapore Classic (February 9-12) and Thailand Classic (February 16-19) taking place in consecutive weeks, followed by the Tour’s first trip to Japan for the ISPS HANDA – CHAMPIONSHIP (April 20-23) and a return to Korea for the first time since 2013 (April 27-30).

In Europe, there are dates changes for several tournaments, including the Horizon Irish Open moving to September 7-10, while the Italian Open will take place from May 4-7 ahead of venue Marco Simone Golf & Country Club hosting the 2023 Ryder Cup from September 29 – October 1.

There is also a new three-week summer break in the schedule following the 151st Open Championship and Barracuda Championship (both July 20-23) which has been introduced following player feedback. This means that there will be no tournaments played between July 24 and August 17, when the ISPS Handa World Invitational begins at Galgorm Castle in Ireland.

Horsham Golf, which operates a 27-hole golf facility and driving range in West Sussex, has unveiled plans for the building of 800 new homes on its land as part of the development that will see the closure of its 18-hole Oaks course.

Horsham Golf will lose its 18-hole course but retain its driving range and short course and get a new clubhouse and mini golf facility built if the plans are approved

A 50% share in the club, which is located on the western edge of Horsham, was recently bought by property firm Generator Group, which wants to convert the 137-acre site into ‘Horsham Golf and Fitness Village’ should it get planning approval.

According to plans outlined by Generator Group, the golf facilities at the new-look site would include a 9-hole golf course, a training course, mini golf, a driving range and a new clubhouse.

The site, which is also currently home to Horsham Football Club, with a stadium and training facility, is also set to become the new home of The Golf College, an educational facility for 50 sixth form age students seeking to pursue a career in golf. The college has been based at Lindfield Golf Club in Haywards Heath since 2007.
The closure of the 18-hole Oaks Course, which first opened in 2016, would create the space for 800 new homes. The site would also include a shop, café, community hub and co-working space for residents, along with allotments, community gardens and parkland. In addition to providing a new base for the Golf College, the site would also provide a permanent new home for Horsham Hockey Club and for charity Warren Clark Golfing Dreams.

The Generator Group is to submit a formal planning application on its proposals to Horsham District Council later this year.

Arccos unveils new Caddie Link https://golfingagency.com/arccos-unveils-new-caddie-link/ https://golfingagency.com/arccos-unveils-new-caddie-link/#respond Sat, 24 Sep 2022 10:36:54 +0000 https://golfingagency.com/arccos-unveils-new-caddie-link/
Just a few days after releasing its next generation Smart Sensors, Arccos Golf has launched a new and improved version of the Caddie Link it first introduced two years ago.

Designed to be worn on a belt, waistband or pocket, the new Arccos Link (Gen2) offers enhanced performance thanks to the capacity to automatically record shots without having to carry a phone on the course. As well as its sleeker look and improved clip functionality, the new device incorporates advanced microphone enhancements with GORE protective vents to deliver reliable, high quality, shot-tracking performance.

“When we launched Link back in 2020 it gave golfers the freedom to play golf without their phone and still get their powerful data. It was a game-changer and helped us to achieve explosive growth worldwide,” said Sal Syed, Arccos CEO and co-founder. “Now, with technical improvements, the new Link is even better. More golfers will play the game their way, with or without their phone and be able to harness personal on-course data, and understand strengths and weakness, leading to faster improvement and more fun.”The weather-resistant device weighs less than 25g and is smaller in length than a bank card – measuring approximately 21/4 inches long, 11/4 inches wide and a 3/4-inch deep. It boasts a battery life of up to 10 hours, with quick charging via a micro-USB cable.

Once paired with the Arccos Caddie app, Smart Sensors seamlessly sync with the Link to provide golfers with the ability to track shots in real time. Link then automatically transfers scoring data to the phone app via Bluetooth, either during or after the round, depending on player preference.

Arccos members using Link can either keep their phone in a golf bag, cart, trolley or back pocket for quick access to the game’s first A.I. powered rangefinder and Caddie advice.

Additional functionality of Link includes the option for a player to mark the exact hole location on the green with a simple push of main button when standing next to the pin. This provides more accurate putting insights and pinpoints areas for player improvement via the exclusive Strokes Gained Analytics software.

Arccos has also expanded the Link’s remote programmable features, so it will always provide the most current shot tracking models – something previously unavailable with the original device. In addition, Link will deliver enhanced shot tracking thanks to new Arccos automatic shot tracking technology introduced last month.

Like the New Smart Sensors (Gen 3+), the latest device is now packaged in a more sustainable box, as the brand continues its drive toward offering more environmentally friendly products.

Compatible with iPhone and Android devices, the new Link has an RRP of £134.99.

TaylorMade unveils next gen Hi Toe wedge range https://golfingagency.com/taylormade-unveils-next-gen-hi-toe-wedge-range/ https://golfingagency.com/taylormade-unveils-next-gen-hi-toe-wedge-range/#respond Thu, 15 Sep 2022 15:32:04 +0000 https://golfingagency.com/taylormade-unveils-next-gen-hi-toe-wedge-range/
The versatile Hi Toe 3 promises spin and control from all lies

TaylorMade has unveiled the next generation of its Hi-Toe wedge series with the launch of the all-new Hi-Toe 3.

With a focus on versatility and added performance on shots closest to the green, TaylorMade’s engineers have designed a club capable of producing the entire catalogue of short-game shots. From low-launching, high-spinning checkers to full-on open-faced flops, Hi-Toe 3 has been meticulously crafted to help golfers unlock creativity and save strokes around the green.

The Hi-Toe 3 design produces a higher centre of gravity that is engineered for a lower launch and more spin, delivering even better control and spin properties on full swings.

A four-way cambered sole allows for the forgiveness associated with high bounce while maintaining a low leading edge, making it playable from tight lies and visually appealing to better players. Trailing edge relief adds to the versatility by allowing golfers to open the face to manipulate loft, trajectory, and spin on short shots. The large ZTP RAW Grooves feature radii further engineered for optimal spin in various conditions.

New elements that enhance Hi-Toe 3’s versatility include expanding full-length scoring lines to all lofts above 54° which higher help generate spin around the green when the face is rotated open on shorter shots, while the face features raised micro-ribs – first used in TaylorMade’s Milled Grind 3 wedge – which are positioned between the full grooves to add texture to the face and increase spin and performance on partial shots around the green.

An aged copper finish adds a premium aesthetic and will blend seamlessly with the RAW face as it rusts over time.

Bill Price, TaylorMade’s director of product creation for wedges and putters, said: “Our tour players all offered great input individually [to the design of the High Toe 3], but collectively everyone wanted something versatile. They wanted a single wedge that could perform around the greens from deep rough, thick fescue, bunkers with different sands, in wet conditions and from tight lies. That’s a lot to fit into a single design, but with Hi-Toe 3 we’ve done it.”
