This weekend’s PNC Championship has a main event, and I’m not sure his name is Tiger, Jordan or Justin. No, the person everyone is clamoring to see play golf in Orlando in the pro-am is Charlie Woods. Tiger’s son won the day last year when he nearly birdied his way to chasing down John Daly and his son for the victory. After a year of improvement and a golf swing that is about as good as it gets for a teenager, he’ll be the main event in 2022.

Humorously, there is some controversy (if you want to call it that) over what tee boxes Charlie will play. In an event that features an 11-year-old and an 87-year-old, there are a wide variety of tee boxes to be played. Charlie was reportedly going to play the second-longest tee boxes originally, but the tournament committee bumped him to the third-longest, according to Golf Channel. The course is expected to play around 6,400 yards from where he will tee off.

Tiger admitted last week that Charlie recently out-drove him, so I’m not sure the second-longest tees (around 6,700 yards) would have been an issue. The younger Woods will likely dominate from 6,400 yards.

Despite Tiger playing in just his fifth event of 2022, his son is the talk of the tournament even among other competitors.

“Anybody we play with will be a treat and will be a thrill,” said Jordan Spieth’s dad, Shawn, on Thursday. “Is Charlie carrying it 260 or 290? Everybody wants to know which one it is, so that will be fun, or more, after the last two weeks.”

“Charlie,” responded Padraig Harrington when asked which Woods he was more interested in seeing swing. From PNC transcripts:

“Actually, to be honest, definitely Charlie, Charlie, Charlie. But kind of just strange enough, after watching Tiger in The Match, to me, with a bit more speed and a bit more of that, like,  you never doubt Tiger’s mental ability, and it’s always one where is he able to come back, and you don’t want to give up — like he looked better physically at that match and the speed.

“And you know me, obviously, I’m interested in that stuff. You know, you’d never run Tiger off, but I actually think he might be even better than that — in a better place than I had thought. So I will take a little sneaky look at Tiger, no doubt. But Charlie, to be honest, I’m more interested in Charlie.

“It’s very interesting for a 13-year-old. And he did it when he was 11. It’s hard to support the angles in a golf swing when you don’t have — at 11, he could hold the club at the right position. Like most kids who are good at 11, 12, 13 years of age, their swing hasn’t even come close to developing.

“Like I bet you if you went back and looked at Rory at 12 years of age, he was hitting a big loopy, you know, drop kicking. Because that’s what they do, kids. But Charlie has always managed to pressure the golf ball, which is exceptional at that age. It really is. So, yeah, I’d be looking at and looking at the swing to see how it is.”

Just a three-time major champion looking forward to seeing the swing. No pressure or anything.

Regardless, the Charlie-Tiger pairing — which is among the favorites to win the PNC at 5-1 — will be a fascinating watch on both accounts. Charlie, because he’s Tiger’s son and obviously gifted at golf, and Tiger, because he’s the best to ever do it and any chance to see him in the twilight of his extraordinary career is always quite a gift.

The 7 Best Golf Tees for Every Golfer [2022 Edition]

It may not seem like the golf tee makes all that much of a difference in the game or matters when you play a round. However, it really does.

Golf tees are more than just a preference and can get in your head. At the risk of making myself seem like a complete golf nut, if I don’t use my regular type of tee, I feel like I lose a few yards.

This article will cover some of our favorite tees and everything you should know about how a golf tee is going to impact your game.

For golfers that just need a quick recommendation, here are our top choices:

Best Wooden Tee

Pride Professional Tee System

Best Plastic Tee

Green Keepers 4 Yards More Golf Tee

Best for Experimenting

Champ Zarma FLYtee My Hite

Main Differences Between Golf Tees

Golf tees have some differences in how they are produced that will, in turn, lead to how they play on the golf course. The three biggest differences between golf tees are the materials, the length, and the style.

It’s important to remember that there is no perfect golf tee; there are, however, players that have very specific preferences as to which tee is going to be the best fit for their game.

Materials

The main materials that golf tees are made up of include plastic, wood, and bamboo. Wood tees are the most common and have been around for quite some time.

Wood tees are biodegradable and will not do much damage to the environment when the lawn mower hits them the following day. This is especially the case when they are the natural color and not painted.

Golf tees can also be plastic. The plastic golf tees are typically not as good for the environment or the golf course, but they hold up for a long time.

The plastic tees are a good fit for golfers that break tees.

Bamboo tees are becoming increasingly popular as they are great from a durability standpoint and will deteriorate and break down over time. With a bamboo golf tee, expect a slightly higher price, as the cost to the manufacturer tends to be a little higher than the wood golf tees.

Some golf courses are starting to limit the types of tees players are allowed to use. Keep this in mind if you are playing somewhere and they do not allow plastic tees.

Length

For many years golf tees all were about the same length. However, over time the 460cc drivers were released, and players realized that they needed something considerably longer to be able to make contact with the center of the driver’s head.

Some players choose an oversized tee, over 3 inches, and just push it down into the ground when they are on a par 3 or not using the driver off the tee.

Other players struggle with getting these longer tees down into the ground and would prefer to have both long and short golf tees. This is a personal preference.

I’ve always just purchased a one-length golf tee and used it for all the holes, and it’s never been an issue.

Style

Through the years, the types of golf tees have also expanded from a style standpoint. As you probably very well know, golfers will purchase anything that they think may help their game. Therefore companies have come up with a few different models.

  • Traditional: A regular tee with an indentation at the top where the ball can sit
  • Martini: Looks as though they have a cup at the top (or martini glass); the ball rests in the tee with very little friction.
  • Step Tees: A tee that will only allow you to push it into the ground so far; this helps to ensure the proper height on all shots.
  • Brush: Instead of having the ball sit on a tee, it rests at the top of a brush and helps to improve overall distance.
  • Anti Slice: Tees that help players visualize and strike the proper location of the ball to promote better spin and the proper flight.

How to Choose The Right Features For You

With all of the different tee options out there, many golfers are unsure how to choose the tee that will be the best fit for their game. Here are a few of the things that you will want to consider:

Skill Level

If you are a new player, it may be difficult to understand how high to tee the golf ball. This is where something like the step tee could come into play. Although it won’t always make or break your shot, there are times that keeping the ball teed at the right height will help you become a better player.

In addition, some lower handicap golfers are very particular about the tee that they use. Some will only want wood tees, with no paint, to ensure their equipment does not have any impact from the tee itself.

Budget

As with all other golf products, there are both cheap and expensive golf tees to choose from. Typically, a mid to short-size wood tee will be the most affordable. The most expensive tees are rubber plastic tees that will last round after round.

It is essential to keep your budget in mind as you may play a lot of rounds in a year, and if you spend money at the beginning and use those tees for the entire year, it could be well worth it.

Ball Flight

The tee that you use can impact your ball flight. For instance, if you are a player that tends to hit the ball really low, it could be because you are not teeing it high enough on the face.

Of course, there are other reasons behind ball flight issues in golf, but this is something that should at least be kept in mind as you play and practice.

Angle of Attack

How do you approach the ball?

We know that with a driver (the most likely club to be teed up), the angle of attack is supposed to be more upright, and the ball is hit on the upswing. However, this isn’t the case for all players.

The chance of breaking the tee is quite high for players that tend to have a slightly steeper angle of attack that may clip their drive on the downswing.

These players may take into consideration their angle of attack so that they do not continually have to purchase new golf tees. Plastic tees are typically a bit more durable and will not fall apart after a single swing.

Environmental Regulations/Consciousness

Some golf courses are forcing golfers to care about the environment and ensure that they are playing with equipment that will be biodegradable. However, not all golfers will need the golf course to help them become more environmentally conscious.

Many golfers care a great deal about the environment, and they want to ensure that they are using a golf tee that will deteriorate a bit more naturally and not cause harm. The best thing any golfer can do is try and find their golf tee after they take a shot.

The Top 7 Golf Tees You Should Consider Buying

Now that you have a better idea of the differences in these golf tees let’s look at the ones you should consider buying. Keep these styles, lengths, and preferences in mind as you choose something that will work best for your needs.

Pride Professional Tee Systems (Best Wooden Tees)

Top pick

Pride Professional Tee System

The Pride Professional Tee Systems are the best wooden tees on the market. In fact, they also make some pretty great plastic tees as well. These golf tees are used as the number one tee on the PGA Tour, and it’s easy to see why.

One of the first things that stands out about the Pride Professional Tee System is the thickness of the tee. The tees come in various lengths, but the overall width or thickness of the tee is very thin.

This thin feeling allows players to swing through without losing even the slightest bit of speed. These tees are 100% natural hardwood and are built for golf clubs of all sizes and types.

Each tee features a color bar that helps players determine the exact tee height that they are looking for.

Pros

  • Made with natural hardwood
  • Color bar to help indicate tee length
  • Good for larger drivers over 400cc
  • Tour-proven model

Cons

  • A bit more money than some other options on the market

Green Keepers 4 Yards More Golf Tee (Best Plastic Tees)

Top pick

Green Keepers 4 Yards More Golf Tee

Although we mentioned that the Pride Professional Tee Systems have some great plastic tees, there are other companies that compete with them quite well. These Green Keepers 4 Yards More tees are obviously all about distance. Players seeking more distance will be impressed with some of the studies on these Green Keepers tees.

One of the features that help the Green Keepers tees stand out is the flexible 6 prong tip. With these small and flexible prongs, the tee has very little grab on the ball, making it easier to get your full distance.

The tees are also built to last for over 100 drivers. This may not be a large package of tees, but expect to get plenty of use out of it.

Pros

  • Impressive testing was done with this tee
  • Less resistance on drives
  • Built to last more than 100 hits
  • Reduced ball spin

Cons

Champ Zarma Golf Tees (Best Golf Tees for People Who Like to Experiment)

Champ Zarma FLYtee My Hite

If you are one of those golfers that like to experiment with different types of golf tees, then the Champ Zarma Golf Tees could be something to try. All of these different tee manufacturers have tried to come up with something unique that stands out as a great option for players.

With the Champ, Zarma Golf Tees expect a 6-prong head and a very shallow cup. The idea is almost to have the ball balance on the top of the tee instead of sitting in it, as we see with other golf tees on the market.

The ability to set the height of your golf ball to the same position every time is a great reason that the Champ Zarma Golf Tees work for the mid to high handicappers trying to bring about some consistency in their game.

If you are smart about this process, a few extra yards and a bit of consistency is a nice benefit of a new tee.

Pros

  • Less surface area of the ball touching the tee
  • Can customize the height of the tee easily
  • Shallow cup on the top of the tee

Cons

  • Not as well known or as widely used by professionals

Thiodoon Golf Tees (Best Value)

THIODOON Golf Tees Professional Natural Wood Golf Tees

The Thiodoon Golf tees are the best option if you are looking for value. Even with these golf tees being some of the most affordable on the market, they are also made with 100% n natural hardwood and are non-toxic.

With Thiodoon Tees are said to be low resistance and have a lower friction tip, but they are mostly like standard golf tees that offer very little friction, to begin with. You can buy this product with a mix of colors and heights to find something you like.

Golfers have been finding that this Thiodoon brand offers variety across several different categories, not just golf tees.

Pros

  • A great option when looking for shorter tees
  • Fair pricing
  • 100% Natural Hardwood

Cons

  • Break rather easily
  • Don’t come in heights quite as tall as other brands

Zero Friction ZFT Maxx 3-Prong 4″ Distance Golf Tee (Best Premium)

Zero Friction ZFT Maxx 3-Prong 4" Distance Golf Tee

The Zero Friction ZFT Maxx 3 Prong is the best premium golf tee on the market. This tee will add up to 5 yards of distance to your drives according to Zero Friction. When we tested and played with these tees in the past, we also noticed an increase in total distance.

The 4” height on the tee is great for golfers that have a large 460cc golf driver. In addition, you will get a tee that is biodegradable and made with recycled materials. Certainly, something you can feel better about using on the golf course.

This is just a 3 prong design, but the ball balances on the top of the tee quite easily, making it a smart option for many players.

Pros

  • Won’t break as easily as other tees
  • Lower the chance of golf drives that are not getting the proper launch
  • Some golfers notice an increase in total distance

Cons

  • Premium tees like this cost quite a bit of money; make sure to find them after you hit!

Callaway Par-Tee (Best For Durability)

Callaway Par-Tee High Performance Golf Tee

If you are tired of snapping tees, the Callaway Par-Tee could be a good option to consider. This low-spin tee is made with a durable co-molded material that will not easily break. The rubberized top and plastic base does a great job of ensuring you will have this in play round after round.

We noticed when we used the tee that the bright color and design made it easy to find after each swing. In addition, the 3 ¼ inch height seems to be plenty for getting distance with a 460cc driver.

If you trust Callaway with the rest of your game, the Callaway Par-Tee is a great option.

Pros

  • Very easy to push into the ground
  • Durable design
  • Has several colors and is a low-spinning golf tee design

Cons

  • Only comes in a pack of four
  • Not environmentally friendly

Consistent Tee Durable Plastic (Best For Consistent Tee Height)

Consistent Tee Beveled Biodegradable Tees

If you worry about finding the proper tee height, the Consistent Tee Durable Plastic is a good option to consider. This is made for the largest drivers on the market and will ensure you tee the ball properly each time.

This tee helps eliminate those sky marks on the top of your club and keeps you from losing distance. The Consistent Tee is USGA compliant, and it comes with a pack of 10 tees that are quite durable and long-lasting.

Pros

  • Easily see how high to tee the ball
  • USGA compliant
  • Longer, straighter, and more consistent drives

Cons

  • Not as lightweight as some other golf tees on the list

Golf Tee FAQs

Now that you are ready to purchase some of the best golf tees on the market, here are a few last things to consider. Remember that some of this comes down to personal preference, and some will be more about performance.

Which Tees Do The Pros Use?

Many golf professionals use hardwood tees that have long tee lengths and less friction. These are often produced by Pride Professional or the Zero Friction Tour tees. The brush tees or martini-type tees are typically not used by professionals. In addition, it’s rare to see bright colors used by pros.

Which Tees Are Better – Plastic or Wood?

Both wooden tees and plastic golf tees can be good, but there are some problems with plastic tees and the environment. If you are concerned about durability and plan to use a tee over and over again, plastic is great. However, bamboo tees or wooden tees are better for those who want something biodegradable.

Can Some Tees Really Help You Hit Longer Drives and/or Slice Less?

Most tees will offer about the same distance for players. However, some offer a bit less friction, while others offer more stability. The difference is usually only a few yards, but for some players, this amount is very important and something well worth taking advantage of.

What Do Split Tees Mean in Golf and When Are They Used? https://golfingagency.com/what-do-split-tees-mean-in-golf-and-when-are-they-used/ https://golfingagency.com/what-do-split-tees-mean-in-golf-and-when-are-they-used/#respond Sat, 29 Oct 2022 15:29:41 +0000 https://golfingagency.com/what-do-split-tees-mean-in-golf-and-when-are-they-used/
What Do Split Tees Mean in Golf and When Are They Used?

Efficiency is essential for the organizers of golf tournaments to maximize revenue.

There are various ways to achieve this objective. One option is to set up a shotgun start. However, in this guide, I discuss a second choice called a split tee, explain what they mean in golf, and when they are used.

What Are Split Tees in Golf?

Split tees refer to scenarios when a golf course starter sends the players off the 1st and 10th tees. Golfers with a tenth tee block time will finish their round on the 9th. Conversely, those playing their first tee shot on the first hole end their long

The main objective is to increase the number of golfers who get through 18-holes on scheduled long days. Two sets of tee boxes are helpful when there are 140 plus golfers in a field, and there is limited daylight for everyone to tee off the 1st.

It is an effective way to increase the field’s capacity, leading to a growth in revenue from green fees and other tournament-related revenue.

In addition, more foursomes of golfers get to tee off on a scheduled day. Given its rise in popularity, a starting time has been hard to come by at some clubs. This is one way to ensure more of us get to play.

Furthermore, a two-tee start alleviates a backlog if bad weather leads to a delay. It enables competitors to complete their rounds without being affected by less daylight.

As a junior, I played many Provincial 36-hole strokeplay league events. The field usually consisted of 80 odd players.

Where I grew up on the East Coast of South Africa, we had plenty of sunlight. However, getting all those youngsters to finish up 36-holes in a day required serious logistics. That is why split tees were employed.

Especially since we were traveling from across the province, which was a 3 to 4-hour drive for some.

The tournament couldn’t start excessively early because of the long-distance travelers, nor could it end at sundown. Somehow, the organizer managed to pull it off and throw prize-giving into the mix.

When Do Professional Tournaments Use Split Tees?

You typically see split tees used in professional tournaments where fields reach as many as 156 professionals. This is commonly found in National Opens. These events extend invitations to International stars and amateurs.

If you watched the PGA Championship last weekend, you would have noticed that split tees were employed on Thursday and Friday. You will also witness this in the upcoming British Open. They use two tees to maximize daylight, and the first group is penciled in for an early tee time.

What Are Double Tees?

Double tees refer to when a golf course sends groups of players off the 1st and 10th tee simultaneously during an allotted period. For example, the starters assign a tee time between 7 and 9am to the 1st of 10th holes.

A challenge that arises with this setup is the pace of play. If players complete the back 9-holes faster than those on the front, you experience delays at the turn. However, when foursomes of golfers are playing at a consistent speed, it flows seamlessly.

What Is The Average Tee Time Interval?

The average schedule allows for 7 to 10-minute intervals. This is determined by the local club and is often based on the time it takes for the group ahead to play their second shot and clear the fairway or green.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, some courses increased the interval time to 12 minutes, ensuring social distance protocols.

Other Start Types in Golf Tournaments

Standard

The standard start is where every golfer tees off the first and completes their round on the 18th. This is common in instances where fewer golfers are on the tee sheet, and there is ample time to complete 18-holes.

You will find that regulation PGA Tour events follow this procedure because the tournaments are restricted to exempt players. The only major tournament to use this start is the Masters. The system works differently at Augusta National compared to the other majors.

Shotgun

A shotgun start is an efficient approach for 72 golfers to complete 18-holes simultaneously. Each fourball is assigned to different tees around the golf course at the same starting time.

For example, the organizer decides that the event starts at 1pm. So, you meet your foursome at the clubhouse and walk over to your assigned tee box.

When you hear the starter’s horn, you commence your round and follow the layout until you have completed 18 holes. If you start on the 4th hole, your 18th will be the 3rd.

Every shotgun start I have played in has been a charity event with a post-round auction. The idea is that everyone finishes simultaneously to keep the participants around for the auction.

A standard start or split tees leads to some players finishing hours before the rest of the field. As a result, some participants leave early, and organizers limit their upsell potential.

Besides extracting cash from the field, a shotgun start works wonders during the time of year with less daylight.

Double Shotgun

A double shotgun start is the same as a single, except that every tee box is assigned two groups of foursomes. Let us call them group A and B. The 18 foursomes from group A tee off at 8:00am, while those in group B hit the links at 12:00pm.

Reverse Shotgun

Reverse shotgun is based on the premise of the original idea. However, it is crafted to cater to fewer players. Instead of the participants teeing off on every hole simultaneously, golfers are assigned to holes 18 and backward. For example, If there are 9 foursomes, they will tee off simultaneously on holes 10 through 18.

This frees up non-tournament players to enjoy a round of golf without being held up or interfering with the pace of play.

Matt Stevens

Matt Callcott-Stevens started playing golf at the age of 4 when Rory Sabattini’s father put a 7-iron and putter in his hand. He has experienced all the highs and lows the game can throw at you and has now settled down as a professional golf writer. He holds a Postgraduate in Sports Marketing and has played golf for 28 years.

DJ hopes to call the tune for GB&I as PGA Cup tees off at Foxhills https://golfingagency.com/dj-hopes-to-call-the-tune-for-gbi-as-pga-cup-tees-off-at-foxhills/ https://golfingagency.com/dj-hopes-to-call-the-tune-for-gbi-as-pga-cup-tees-off-at-foxhills/#respond Fri, 16 Sep 2022 19:45:03 +0000 https://golfingagency.com/dj-hopes-to-call-the-tune-for-gbi-as-pga-cup-tees-off-at-foxhills/
The GB&I PGA Cup team is looking for a win on home soil at Foxhills in Surrey

Both Great Britain & Ireland and the United States will wear black ribbons this week as they prepare to face each other in the 30th PGA Cup matches which begins at Foxhills Club & Resort, Surrey from today (Sept 16) until Sunday (Sept 18).

The hosts will be led by former European Tour player and ex-Ryder Cup Vice Captain David ‘DJ’ Russell, while the America Captain is Suzy Whaley, who in 2018 became the first woman elected to serve as President of the PGA of America.

The event is seen as the pinnacle for any PGA Professional as both teams go head-to-head in a Ryder Cup format to win The Llandudno International Trophy.“I’ve been very fortunate in my career in golf, and this is very much a high point in my career,” said Russell, whose son Chris will serve as Vice Captain. “I’m honoured to be captain of Great Britain & Ireland in a PGA Cup.”

“It’s a tremendous honor to serve as United States Captain for the 30th PGA Cup, as we come together at a magnificent venue to celebrate the game of golf,” said Whaley. “We’re certainly aware of the formidable challenge we will face from another talented GB&I squad and the difficulty that comes with winning on foreign soil.”

Speaking ahead of the 30th PGA Cup matches, Russell said: “It’s a massive honour anyway, but particularly with what’s gone on over the last few days. Queen Elizabeth II has always been around for us, so from a personal point of view it’s almost like losing your grandmother or the grand-figure in your family.”

Whaley added: “I knew coming over here it will be historic time. I was thinking about how we would handle the matches and would they be able to go on. I was thrilled that they could go on because she loved sports, she loved sporting events and I’m hopeful that she’s thrilled that we’re having this competition.”

Foxhills will make PGA Cup history this week when it becomes only the second venue in the tournament’s 49-year history to host the matches twice, following the lead of 2006 Ryder Cup host venue The K Club in Ireland (1992 and 2005).

The PGA Cup was first played at Pinehurst (North Carolina) Country Club in 1973, with the Americans winning the first match 13-3. GB&I notched their first PGA Cup win 1978 with a 10½ – 6½ victory at St Mellion, but overall the history books make grim reading from a British and Irish standpoint, with the Americans winning 18 times compared to GB&I’s seven, while there have been four draws.

Blue Tees Golf Series 3 Max Rangefinder Review https://golfingagency.com/blue-tees-golf-series-3-max-rangefinder-review/ https://golfingagency.com/blue-tees-golf-series-3-max-rangefinder-review/#respond Wed, 14 Sep 2022 01:15:01 +0000 https://golfingagency.com/blue-tees-golf-series-3-max-rangefinder-review/

If you have even hinted to your phone or computer that you like golf, chances are you have seen a Blue Tees ad. Blue Tees Golf  comes at you hard and fast with marketing and promotion. Hype or fact?

To find out, we put the Blue Tees Golf Series 3 Max rangefinder to the test as part of our 2022 Best Golf Rangefinder review.

The ads for Blue Tees make it seem like you are a cool golfer as soon as you own one of these rangefinders. As is our mandate, we were more concerned about the accuracy, speed, optics and features. In our Blue Tees Golf Series 3 Max rangefinder review, we will give you all the details you need to determine if this product is for you.

Blue Tees Golf Series 3 Max Rangefinder Details

The Blue Tees Golf Series 3 Max rangefinder is compact, affordable and has some features we see in more premium-priced rangefinders. One of the first things you need to know is that it is a “slope” rangefinder and you can quickly toggle that function on and off so you can use this in your next competitive event.

The Blue Tees Golf Series 3 Max claims to be accurate to within one yard from as far away as 900 yards. With the Blue Tees Golf Series 3, you will get a built-in magnetic strip and it holds on to the cart well. The water-resistant casing is a bonus.

Another important feature is the display. Even if you have trouble seeing through laser rangefinders, this is a clear display with black or red text options to choose from.

Pros

  • Very easy to use
  • Accurate to within one yard
  • Built-in magnetic strip
  • Comes with extra batteries and a two-year warranty
  • The slope function is easy to turn on and off
  • Seven-times magnification
  • Short vibrating pulse to confirm target is locked in

Cons

  • Accuracy not as good as premium models
  • Slightly cheaper-feeling housing
  • If the slope is turned on, only one number shows
  • Anything over 200 yards may need to be measured more than once

How We Test

As part of our 2022 Best Rangefinder test, we looked at 24 rangefinders and tested them for a total of 24 hours. The products were used to get both long and far distances. Our main categories for rating the rangefinders were accuracy, speed, optics, display, features and a total overall rating.

Blue Tees Golf Series 3 Max Rangefinder Review

The Blue Tees Golf Series 3 Max rangefinder did not fare as well as we had hoped in the 2022 Best Rangefinder test. With all the marketing and positivity behind this product, its overall finish of 14th out of 24 was disappointing.

Accuracy

Blue Tees was 18th out of 24 for accuracy. These days, accuracy within one yard is not good enough. However, the problem with the Blue Tees rangefinder is not the accuracy from 150 yards in but once you move out of that range. The pin-seeker technology does not grab the pin quite as well as it should and users have a hard time trusting the number. If you primarily use your rangefinder inside 150, this may not bother you.

Speed

The speed rating was 12th out of 24. This is nothing to be alarmed about as we certainly didn’t feel like we were waiting for yardage to load up. It’s just not really quick. When the slope is turned on, this rangefinder tends to be even a little slower.

Optics

The optics scored 14th out of 24. Again, not great. One of the significant issues goes back to the model’s inaccuracy. Players often look for better optics to have a clear view and genuinely know they have hit the pin. Blue Tees optics are clear; it’s not difficult to see through but they don’t improve any of the accuracy or confidence when we needed it to. The seven-times magnification is a great feature.

Display

The display scored eighth out of 24, the best category for the Blue Tees Golf Series 3 Max rangefinder. With the display, you can choose between black or red and you will only see one number at all times. For those who want info delivered cleanly and efficiently, Blue Tees will do the trick.

Features

The features ended up right in the middle of the pack with a 12 out of 24 for their final spot. Honestly, this is where the Blue Tees Golf Series 3 Max rangefinder should be. There is nothing overly unique about the unit but it’s also not lacking in any major way. There are just no significant bells and whistles that can move the Blue Tees up the list.

Overall

The final placement of the Blue Tees Series 3 Max rangefinder was 14th with a score of 86 out of 100. Compared to the top finisher, the Bushnell Pro XE at 94.5, the performance was not that great. Again, the Bushnell and the Blue Tees are different price points but you have to consider what matters the most. Most golfers would agree the most critical feature is accuracy.

Tester Feedback

Here are a few things we noticed about the Blue Tees and its performance during the testing.

  • The case felt a bit lower in quality than other rangefinders.
  • Magnetic cart mount works quite well.
  • Compact size of the unit is nice and it is easy to hold steady in the hand.
  • If there is a bush or tree behind the pin, the pin-seeker technology struggles.
  • The clean display helped pre-shot routine be a little quicker, especially for those with vision issues.

My Golf Spy Feedback

Bottom Line

This is not the most accurate model on the market. It’s got good features, a clean and sleek look and a simple-to-read display. The Series 3 is about half the price of some top rangefinders on the market and that affects accuracy when you are looking at golf rangefinders. Bottom line: If you mainly use your rangefinder for yardages less than 150 yards, this is a good tool.
