Children, kids,
and juniors; they have this incredible ability to get through shoes like nobody
else.

Golf may be a non-contact sport, and there’s obviously less stress on golf shoes on the fairways compared to the playground environment, but it’s still an activity that demands a lot of its footwear. For that reason, many parents prioritise durability above anything else when buying junior golf shoes for their children.

Of course,
kids start taking charge of what they wear when they get to a certain age, so
styling is also very important. Thankfully, just like the golf shoe market for adult
men and women golfers, there are plenty of choices out there for juniors—allowing
them to choose a model that ticks the specific looks that they’re after.

Many top brands produce junior versions of the popular models that sell so well with adult golfers, which makes sense. Other brands tweak certain models to suit younger golfers.

Price, too, is often a significant factor in determining which model to buy. Generally, junior golf shoes tend to cost less. However, that doesn’t mean they come cheap. Given how quickly children can grow and how the foot can change in shape, many parents will be mindful of shelling out big money on a pair that their child may have grown out of in as little as six months’ time, especially if it’s a first-ever pair.

The best junior golf shoes

So, here, we have selected a range of the best junior golf shoes on the market, and we have ticked off several price points. Included are several styles, from classic offerings to more modern, sporty and athletic designs.

The Tour360 line from Adidas is one of the brand’s most successful. These performance shoes feature a durable synthetic upper material that offers water-resistant protection to keep your feet dry. The Bounce midsole, meanwhile, helps soak up shock and reduce fatigue caused by long hours of walking. With a spiked outsole that maintains a positive grip in all conditions and a ThinTech cleat that offers super traction, you’re guaranteed plenty of stability.

Skechers, as you would expect from a brand renowned for its extraordinary comfort levels, has implemented much of the technology you would see on adult models. They feature Skechers H2GO Shield waterproof protection, GOGA Max cushioning, and the replaceable Softspikes, which is very handy, given how frequently children can lose items. This is a super model—well constructed and durable—and will not break the bank.

The
Pro/SL, which is a hugely popular model among adult golfers, is the ideal first
golf shoe—a model that offers young golfers advanced comfort and performance to
help them get started on the right foot (pardon the pun).

These golf shoes feature a full rounded toe character, and standard fit across the forefoot and instep, with a slightly narrow heel. Meanwhile, the waterproof, easy-care synthetic uppers provide a comfortable fit and added durability.

With its distinctive styling, young golfers will surely like the sporty-looking Fuel shoe. It’s designed to offer superior stability with the Stability Bridge and EVA midsole on the spikeless sole providing high levels of traction. The synthetic upper makes it easy to clean, plus, just like the Pro SL, it comes with a one-year waterproof warranty.

The Roshe
design is one of the brand’s most popular lines among the younger generation,
which makes it a popular choice for junior golfers, especially those who like
to don the famous Nike swoosh.

As you might expect from a Nike shoe, you get lots of comfort, mainly due to the injected midsole and lightweight cushioning. They boast plenty of stability, too. With plenty of colour options to choose from, junior golfers can also get creative with the style they want.

The Puma Junior IGNITE PWRADAPT 2.0 shoe utilises a performance microfiber upper, full-length IGNITE Foam and a spiked outsole to provide superb comfort and superior traction on the golf course. This foam helps provide energy return, responsive comfort, stable cushioning, and ample comfort. Meanwhile, strategically placed hexagons provide multidirectional traction, with 24 chevron-shaped lugs increasing traction where it’s needed most. Junior golfers are sure to find the athletic look appealing.

Three-time
Major winner Jordan Spieth has turned out to be quite the ambassador for Under
Armour, and he’ll have inspired many a young golfer to take up the game since
bursting onto the scene roughly a decade ago.

The American has always been heavily involved in the design and testing of the Under Armour shoes, so you can be sure that every aspect of performance has been carefully considered with the Junior shoe. This high-performance shoe has been constructed with a breathable upper and waterproof membrane designed to release perspiration for zero distractions during your golf game. It’s also finished with an integrated lacing system to lock the feet in place, while a 3D moulded quarter panel and tongue lining add comfort.

Callaway
might not be the first brand that comes to mind where golf shoes are concerned—irons
and woods, absolutely—but not necessarily footwear. However, Callaway is
starting to enjoy some success in this market, and its Apex Junior shoe is a
solid performer.

It has a mid-wide fit and is manufactured from performance leather. The Apex Synthetic Spikeless Sole provides impressive traction, and the comfort box is ticked courtesy of an Opti-Vent Mesh Liner.

Stephen Gallacher to captain European Junior Ryder Cup team https://golfingagency.com/stephen-gallacher-to-captain-european-junior-ryder-cup-team/ Mon, 12 Dec 2022 16:09:47 +0000 https://golfingagency.com/stephen-gallacher-to-captain-european-junior-ryder-cup-team/
Stephen Gallacher is been selected to captain Europe at the 2023 Junior Ryder Cup, while Ryder Cup Europe and the European Golf Association have also confirmed the selection process for the European junior team.

The Scot, a four-time DP World Tour winner, was part of the European team that retained the Ryder Cup in 2014, winning 16.5-11.5 at Gleneagles.

Six boys and six girls will take on the USA in Rome from September 26-28, 2023, with the first two days of the Junior Ryder Cup being played at Golf Nazionale before the singles matches are held at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, the Ryder Cup venue, on the eve of the 44th edition of the biennial contest between Europe and the United States.

Three boys and three girls will earn a place on the European Junior Ryder Cup team through a season-long ranking system, which has been organised by the European Golf Association, while the remaining six players will be selected by Gallacher, the European Junior Ryder Cup Captain.

Gallacher set up his own foundation to help and encourage junior golfers in Scotland and he will now lead the European junior team in Rome as he continues to inspire the next generation of golfers.

“I am absolutely delighted to be named Junior European Ryder Cup Captain for 2023,” said Gallacher. “It’s a privilege to be able to lead a team of the best juniors in Europe against America in Rome. “Playing the final day at Marco Simone will be a fantastic experience for our players who get the opportunity to compete in front of Ryder Cup crowds on the Ryder Cup course for the first time.”

He added: “I’m really looking forward to getting to some events during the year and working with the most exciting future talent in Europe.”

Players will earn points for the Rankings based on their finishing position in selected elite amateur events in 2023 and these points will be allocated using the World Amateur Golf Ranking system. The qualification process will end following The R&A Girls’ and Boys’ Amateur Championships on August 20, 2023.

Boys and girls who are citizens of a European country as defined by the International Golf Federation’s Nationality Policy, under 18 years of age on January 1, 2023, and who are not enrolled to play college golf in USA during 2023 are eligible to participate in the 2023 Junior Ryder Cup.

The 2021 Junior Ryder Cup was postponed due to the pandemic, although the US team that had been selected played an exhibition match at Whistling Straits.

Sophia shines at Telegraph Junior Finals https://golfingagency.com/sophia-shines-at-telegraph-junior-finals/ Tue, 08 Nov 2022 11:18:42 +0000 https://golfingagency.com/sophia-shines-at-telegraph-junior-finals/
Some of the UK’s most prodigious young talents showcased their skills at the Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf Championship at Quinta do Lago in Portugal last week.

The competition, which was sponsored for the third time by Justin Rose, a former winner of the title, saw 24 boys and girls compete across 54 holes for a trophy that has also been lifted by golfing greats such as Alice Hewson and Matt Fitzpatrick.

A dozen players in each category took to the resort’s South Course – the first major event hosted on the layout since it underwent a €7 million renovation project last year.

Despite threats of a late comeback from a number of high-quality opponents, 17-year-olds Dylan Shaw-Radford and Sophia Fullbrook – who had led their respective tables heading into the final round – managed to hold on for victory.

Fullbrook, a member of the Melbourne Club at Brocket Hall in Hertfordshire, had established a strong lead after two rounds and held her nerve to win by two strokes. Shaw-Radford, from Huddersfield Golf Club, also won by two, demonstrating remarkable consistency with scores of 69, 69 and 70.

Over 17,000 entrants were narrowed down through qualifying to the 24 finalists, including reigning boys’ champion Harley Smith. With a plethora of experienced competitors in the field, it came as no surprise that both Fullbrook and Shaw-Radford needed to keep their focus until the final hole to ensure their respective victories in the Algarve.

Seventeen-year-old Jack Lee, of Rochester & Cobham Park, came closest to knocking Shaw-Radford from his perch with an exceptional round of 68 on the second day. Meanwhile, the finest individual performance of the tournament came from 15-year-old Amelia Wan from Nottinghamshire. Her stunning opening round of 65 – seven-under-par on the par-72 layout – made her the early favourite to top the girls’ division. However, the class of Fullbrook and second-placed Rebekah Gardner, of Clandeboye, eventually told and saw Wan slip to third.

Shaw-Radford said: “This means a great deal. Just look down the names who have won it – Justin Rose himself, Andrew Coltart and a fellow Yorkshireman in Matt Fiztpatrick, ten years ago. What a way to finish 2022.”

Fullbrook added: “I guess we both held commanding leads today and only made sure of it on the 18th, but that is testament to the strength of the fields. I am very pleased, as well as being relieved, and I am sure Dylan is, too.”

The Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf Championship, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, is open to any golfer aged 18 or under at the turn of each year. Quinta do Lago is regularly entrusted with hosting duties, having staged the event six times in eight years.

Ping Junior Masters produces close finish https://golfingagency.com/ping-junior-masters-produces-close-finish/ https://golfingagency.com/ping-junior-masters-produces-close-finish/#respond Wed, 02 Nov 2022 09:16:09 +0000 https://golfingagency.com/ping-junior-masters-produces-close-finish/

The champions of this year’s Ping Junior Masters event have been crowned at Close House in Newcastle, following an exciting grand final which was the biggest to date.

A group of 68 talented juniors competed the club’s championship Colt course, as Close House continued its support of young golfers and their development within the game.

Three age groups were represented at the grand final: 12 and under, 15 and under, and 18 and under. The age group winners were George Curry/Abigail Scott (12 and under), Oliver Goodison/Evie Coatesworth (15 and under) and Joe Mulroy/Rebecca Evans (18 and under) – with Abigail Scott taking the overall victory.

Throughout May to September, junior golfers across eight counties in the UK battled it out for a space in the final, with nine qualifying events taking place and producing the best turnout in the history of the tournament.

Close House’s attached professional, Lee Westwood, played a big part in the initial development of the Junior Masters, with the vision to help grow the game and create more competitive opportunities for keen young golfers.

“I am a really proud supporter of the Junior Masters,” he commented. “They are great events, played at some top courses in the UK. Providing young golfers with competitive opportunities is invaluable, and everyone involved in these events is extremely committed to supporting junior golf – it is a privilege to be involved.”

Jonathan Lupton, Managing Director at Close House, added: “The Junior Masters series is a huge part of Close House’s efforts to help develop the future generations of golfers, giving youngsters an invaluable opportunity to play competitive golf. From personal experience it’s fantastic to give these juniors the chance to play the final on a championship standard golf course, whilst also having fun and enjoying the event.”

In addition to hosting a qualifying event and the final, Close House has also given free school coaching to children at 15 local schools.

The 2022 events also saw PING Europe continue its support of the tournament, providing all the prizes at the grand final and helping to make it a truly memorable experience for the juniors involved.

Tiger Woods caddies as son Charlie shoots career-best 68 at junior championship https://golfingagency.com/tiger-woods-caddies-as-son-charlie-shoots-career-best-68-at-junior-championship/ https://golfingagency.com/tiger-woods-caddies-as-son-charlie-shoots-career-best-68-at-junior-championship/#respond Wed, 28 Sep 2022 09:08:41 +0000 https://golfingagency.com/tiger-woods-caddies-as-son-charlie-shoots-career-best-68-at-junior-championship/

The Presidents Cup was taking place over the weekend, but Tiger Woods had a more important job. Woods served as the caddy for his son, Charlie Woods, who shot a career-best 68 (4-under final round) in the final round of the Notah Begay III Junior National Golf Championship in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida on Sunday.

Charlie’s career-best finish tied him for fourth place in the Boys’ 12-13 division, according to Cameron Jourddan of Golfweek.

“Dad told me to stay patient. I just played steady golf,” Charlie told Golfweek.

Charlie entered the day 1-over par, but ended up finishing strong. The 13-year old capped off Sunday’s final round with a pair of birdies and an eagle on a par-5 14th hole. In fact, Charlie nearly had an albatross on the 14th hole, but the ball just lipped off the cup.

“When I hit (the approach), I knew it was good,” Charlie added. “When it started trickling down, I knew it was going to be close, but not that close.”

During the PNC Championship in December 2021, Charlie played alongside Tiger and even displayed similar mannerisms to his legendary father. While he certainly has a long way to go, it’s pretty clear to see that the sport is in his blood.
